The inaugural Kansas Ultrarunners' Society Heartland 100 is now over.  The course is a 50-mile out and back with approximately 6,200 feet of climb and descent through the Flint Hills of Kansas.  32 were registered and 27 toed the starting line October 14 at 6:00am, with 22 finishers within the 30-hour limit, a 73% finish rate.   Saturday through Sunday remained cloudy and cool, with some fog Saturday night.

Charles Stodter took the overall male title with this being his first 100-mile attempt and only second ultra.  When asked Friday night what he was estimating as a finishing time, he replied 19 hours. Not too bad!  Monica Scholz, no stranger to 100-milers this year, took the overall women's' title in just over 23 hours.  This was her 15th hundred this year.  We also had the pleasure of Hans-Dieter Weisshaar running this 19th hundred with us.

While the race was not perfect we will make the improvements and we will be back next year, tentatively the 13th of October.
