ENTRY: $
55.00/50 Mile and $45.00/Trail marathon if postmarked by March 23rd,
add $15.00 per entry until April 6th. $5.00 discount to KUS members. $5.00
discount for reusable tag, you may use the same tag from any previous year’s
race but you must enter the same race for the tag color, red-50 Mile,
white-marathon, send entry, with tag color and number, must be received by
March 25th. Tags are not transferable;
you may not sell or give your number to any other runner. No refunds
after March 1st. No race day entry. Credit for Trail marathon finish
will be given if 50 Mile participants decide to stop after the first loop, but
are not eligible for marathon awards.
Directions to the race
headquarters:
From K-141 turn west at the Venango Park turn. The Venango Park turn is located
just north of the Kanopolis dam. At the V in the road take the right fork into
Kanopolis State Park, not the Venango turn. You must stop at the pay
booth or the Park Office to purchase a day use permit for $6.50 per vehicle. If
you have a Kansas Parks permit, you do not need to purchase a day permit. After
you pass the parks office follow the road to the T intersection, turn left and
the Corral shelter turn is on your right. The race starts near the shelter and
will include approximately ¼ to ½ mile of pavement to the trail. Warning:
The deer population at the lake has grown enormously, please be watchful
driving around the lake area and inside the park, especially near dusk and
dawn.
CUTOFFS & TIME LIMIT: 50 Mile cutoff: Must leave the last manned aid
station at approximately 42.5 miles by 5:00 p.m. 13 hour time limit. Trail
marathon 13-hour time limit. Mules are allowed on the second loop of the
fifty-mile run but the Race Director has to be notified. Early starts by
special arrangement with RD’s.
PACKET PICKUP: Race headquarters will be located at the Corral shelter house at the
Rockin K campgrounds. Follow the signs through the park to the
campgrounds. Pre-race registration and
packet pick-up will be held from 3-6 p.m. on Friday April 1st. The
pre-race pasta dinner starts around 6:30 p.m., there is no packet pickup
during the dinner on Friday night, or packets may be picked up before
the pre race meeting at 6:30 AM race morning.
DINNERS:
Pre-race pasta dinner starts at 6:30 PM on Friday April 1st. Chili and fixin's available after the race.
AWARDS: First
overall male and female, plus awards to all finishers. Credit for marathon finish
will be given for 50 Mile runners deciding to stop after one loop, but are not
eligible for marathon awards. Finisher’s awards may be picked up from Race
officials before you leave. Overall winners will receive Rockin K t-shirts with
their time printed on them, to be mailed after the race. Please talk to Stacy
for your award before you leave the area.
COURSE: This trail is a multi-use equestrian, hiking and
mountain bike trail. It mostly single track horse trail with some four-wheel drive
pasture roads. This trail will include hills, rocky sections, sand, and
numerous shallow water crossings. The
marathon course is the first loop. The 50-mile course is a double loop of the
marathon loop.
WEATHER: Historical extremes in temperature range from a
minimum low of 19°F to a maximum high of 84°F; conditions can include extremes
of snow to heat and humidity. Please prepare and pack accordingly.
AID: There will be at least 2 well-stocked manned aid stations at approximately 13
and 18 miles on the first loop (marathon) and 37 and 42 on the second loop (50
mile). Weather permitting there will be water, electrolyte drink and drop bags
at an unmanned aid station at approximately 7 and 20 on the first loop
(marathon) and 34 and 44 on the second loop (50 mile). Runners Note: The
area between the two manned aid stations has no access points for handlers. It
is all deep in four wheel drive country, if bad weather conditions exist then
we may not be able to set up the unmanned aid station. Three to four water
bottles are recommended if this aid station isn’t set up.
ACOMMADATIONS: Camping and electric
hookups are located throughout the park. Please check with the Parks office for
availability and fees. The shower house may be open, but you will need to check
with us or the Park office on Friday April 1st.The park office number is 785-546-2343.

Prairie Inn, in Ellsworth, has agreed to be our host hotel again this year, is
about 20 miles from the start, very nice, recently remodeled, pool, and spa. The phone
number is 1-800-234-4240. Special room rates are available. Please mention the
race to get the special rate.
Lindsborg, about 20 miles from the start has 2 motels, The Coronado Motel,

Salina KS is about 30 minutes away from the lake and there are several major
chain motels there, Ramada, Holiday Inn, Fairfield Inn, etc.
